We are currently seeking a Tax Technician for our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice in our Dallas office.  The Tax Technician is responsible for assisting our Sales and Use Tax Compliance Team with sales/use tax compliance, operations, and related activities.  

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Update monthly sales tax client compliance Tracker and Calendar as required to maintain accuracy
  • Review and upload monthly client sales tax data to Vertex Cloud and/or Vertex Indirect Tax Returns (“VITR”) System
  • Resolve all Vertex system generated import errors in Vertex Cloud and VITR (or escalate as appropriate for additional review where necessary if unable to resolve quickly)
  • Send monthly sales tax return drafts and liability worksheets to clients for approval
  • Assist with new client onboarding process including data mapping and testing
  • Upload monthly returns to our secure client document portals 
  • Regularly track sales tax compliance related progress for all assigned clients and ensure all timely required sign offs by all stakeholders are completed in a timely manner
  • Assist with monthly billing process
  • Communicate with Vertex team and clients on sales tax compliance related matters
  • Monitor centralized compliance practice email to ensure timely responses to inbound client inquiries
  • Assist other team members as required
  • The Ideal Candidate:

  • Associate degree in accounting or equivalent work experience required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years of sales tax compliance experience preferred
  • Previous experience working with Vertex sales tax preparation software preferred
  • Experience with Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe PDF documents, and other similar software required.  Proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage projects, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and self-review skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
