Accounting Principals is looking for a Staff Accountant to join an accounting team in Woodstock, IL. This is a temporary to permanent position with starting pay up to $30/hour. To qualify, you must have 2-4 years of grant management experience, Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 skills.

WORKING HOURS: Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES           

  • Oversight of day-to-day miscellaneous receivables billing, and collection activities. Develop and maintain accounting controls over revenue collection and focus on data accuracy. Be well versed in complex revenue recognition principles.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and as needed financial analyses and reports to present to the Chief Financial Officer, County Administrator, Finance & Audit Committee, and/or County Board Chair and Board.
  • Reviews, proposes, and implements resolutions to, internal and external auditor findings, significant deficiencies, material weaknesses, and recommendations.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, and guidance for the operation of grant accounting and compliance functions, including review and preparation of budgets and amendments, preparation of grant reports and financial documentation.
  • Analyze various grantor revenue and expenditure reports and make appropriate recommendations to ensure compliance with budgeted projections and grant provisions.
  • Provide oversight in the preparation and monitoring of organizational as well as departmental grant budgets.
  • Prepare audit worksheets, schedules, reports and supporting documentation to be used during grant audits by federal, state, or other related agencies.
  • Prepares and enters adjusting entries, year-end closing entries and other journal entries as required; verifies Treasurer’s Offices postings to the general ledger and/or reconciles posting errors as they are found. Reviews cash receipt entries from decentralized departments and outside reporting agencies\elected offices.
  • Assists with the annual audit and budget process.
  • Other tasks, as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a minimum of four years of experience including customer service, state and federal grant management, finance and/or accounting department.
  • Experience with FEMA Public Assistance, preferred.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent degree.
  • Certified Public Finance Officers preferred or to obtain within the first year of employment with the County.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel, Teams, Word, Outlook, and general accounting software.
  • Needs to be trustworthy with a proven ability to appropriately handle confidential financial information.
  • Strong work ethic and time management, a keen sense of urgency and accountability for follow-through.
  • High analytic and financial insight with a desire to problem solve.
