Accounting Principals has partnered with a small business in the professional services industry in search of a Controller to join their organization. This Controller position is accountable for the administrative and financial operations of the Company, including supervising the day-to-day accounting functions, overseeing the monthly close and financial reporting process, tax filings, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results. Compensation for this direct hire begins at $85,000.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide management with information vital to the decision-making process.
  • Develop and monitor business performance metrics.
  • Oversee regulatory reporting of consolidated financial statements including tax planning and compliance.
  • Hire, train and retain skilled accounting staff.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions.
  • Maximizes return and limits risk on cash by minimizing bank balances and making investments.
  • Provide status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Monitor company's financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs.
  • Keep up to date on the financial market to understand how to maximize profits and find new expansion areas.
  • Interface with external CPA firm throughout the year as questions arise and annually in conjunction with year-end tax return preparation and financial statement audit engagement.
  • Experience and Skills:

  • BA in accounting or finance required
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in a small to mid-size company
  • Knowledge of business management and accounting software
  • Excellent communication and people skills enabling effective dialog with employees on all levels and with varied professional sophistication
  • Detailed orientated
  • Highly self-motivated and able to operate autonomously
  • Highest possible ethical and professional standard
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Willingness to take on a variety of tasks, as required in a small office environment
