Accounting Principals has partnered with a Dallas, TX Medical Company to hire a Payroll Accountant for a contract-to-hire role paying $65,000. The position is responsible for performing the payroll administration and general ledger accounting for payroll. The position is also responsible for assisting with other finance department functions.


  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience, including maintenance, preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
  • Experience with payroll processing and accounting required
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and other payroll/accounting systems (Workforce ready Kronos is nice to have)

  • Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the maintenance and reconciliation of all payrolls related general ledger accounts. Books journal entries for all payroll runs (on-cycle & off-cycle), reconcile payroll accounts, ad hoc reporting, reporting metrics, and completing analysis as requested by financial analysts and management
  • Participates in all aspects of the month-end close (assigned accruals, assigned reconciliations, analysis of accounts, etc.) that conform to US GAAP in a timely and accurate manner. Reconciles an assigned set of general ledger accounts monthly, proposing corrections as needed. Reconciles all payroll and payroll tax related accounts monthly. Ensuring timely and accurate monthly review of all assigned accounts.
  • Respond to and resolve all internal and external inquiries in a timely manner
  • Works with other departments to ensure that transactional activity is coded accurately, and financial reporting integrity is maintained
  • Responsible for researching and documenting policies for assigned general ledger accounts to ensure US GAAP compliance for review and approval by management team
  • Maintain payroll records including but not limited to: payroll change notices, paid time off, and all related payroll reports
  • Prepares payroll journal entries, PTO updates, payroll accruals, and other general ledger entries
  • Prepares monthly reports for departments with department payroll analytics and any other ad hoc reporting when needed
  • Prepares budget for salaries, wages and benefits and quarterly variance analysis and reporting
  • Conducts reconciliation of payroll bank account and reconciliation of taxes
  • Assist with completing and filing yearend Form 1095 forms at yearend and assist with any yearend Form W2s
  • When needed, researches and resolves questions from management and employees as they relate to the processing of payroll information such as PTO, banking, garnishments, retroactive pay calculations, tax questions and other changes.
  • Understands proper taxation, classification, and company paid benefits
  • Good understanding of out-of-state employee requirements for submitting and establishing new payroll related taxes in accordance with that state
  • Assist with payroll related audits
  • Continues to look for improvements in payroll related processes for the organization, and helps to implement them
  • Creates and maintains work instructions.
