Accounting Principals is assisting our Bergen County, NJ client in their search for an Interim Controller.  This consulting project will be 3-6 months to start, but does have potential to be extended.  The position will start out onsite five days per week for the first month or two, but then will move to a more hybrid schedule.

Job Description:

  • Responsible for all day-to-day accounting, finance, payroll, tax, compliance and reporting activities for the company post close
  • Conduct knowledge transfer from CEO and COO during transition period
  • Partner with Director Operations to execute monthly franchisee billing process.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll (~4 employees) and all franchisees using existing tools (including Paychex), processes and controls.
  • Transition ownership of existing bank accounts from Seller post-close
  • Support transition of banking relationship to new bank (if applicable)
  • Manage daily treasury, credit card and banking activities
  • Lead monthly close process, achieving full financial close by Day 4
  • Create and complete reconciliation schedules for all key accounts including cash, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, deferred franchisee acquisition costs, accrued corporate payroll, and other accrued expenses
  • Update and submit monthly reporting package (MRP) including 3-statement financial statements, trend analysis, budget-to-actual analysis, headcount & turnover, and franchisee profitability by Day 6
  • Build and manage 13-week cash flow
  • Lead annual 2022 budgeting process in partnership with CEO and Finance Director
  • Support opening balance sheet audit expected to kick off approximately 75 days after close
  • Support 12/31/21 audit planning activities with external auditor (as needed)
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors for compliance with federal, state and local tax authorities (as needed)
  • Support onboarding of new franchisees into Executive payroll, billing and reporting systems and processes (3 in current pipeline)
  • Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Accounting
  • CPA preferred
  • QuickBooks experience preferred
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to lead close and post close activities
