Accounting Principals is assisting our client in Union County, New Jersey in their search for a Controller/Director of Finance. The role will report directly to the CFO and oversee the Accounting and Credit departments. The Controller will be responsible for functions including financial reporting and analysis, profitability analyses, cash management, A/P, A/R, general ledger, inventory, and payroll.
Manage the financial team in the processing of a broad variety of transactions while also being hands on in the day to day work.
Coordinate the timely preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports. Ensure accurate, timely reporting of company financial information - budgets, forecasts, monthly results and flash reports. Identify key issues and propose actions thereon to meet company objectives.
Analyze operating costs in detail and recommend action to increase profitability and enhance long-term return on investment.
Convert monthly detailed financial data into understandable summaries and recommendations to be used by leadership.
Review monthly financial results and key metrics. Identify corrective action and communicate these to the leadership team.
Coordinate, manage and own the monthly forecast process and develop variance and bridge analysis. Assist teams in developing appropriate counter measures to meet or exceed financial targets for EBITDA and working capital.
Assist in preparation and review of Capital Asset Request (CAR) financial justifications for facility capital projects.
•Develop and document standard work for the close, forecast and budgeting processes.
Provide sound financial analysis and develop financial tools and models to support decision making across the business.
Recommend metrics to be tracked and lead implementation of counter measures to meet goals in operations.
Provide accurate and timely processing of accounts payable and payroll
Ensure all Balance sheet accounts are adequately maintained and reconciled monthly
Ensure compensation and benefits administration is timely and accurate
In conjunction with the CFO, develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.
Ensure that working capital, cash, productivity, quality measures and defined KPI’s are adequately reported and controlled to achieve plan levels and in accordance with company requirements. Implement a process of performance improvement metrics in all businesses.
Interact with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.
Ensure compliance with local and state financial, tax and sales tax reporting requirements.
Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures and establish forecast measures that provide business insights to the business leadership.
Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and position control documents, department budgets, salary updates, ledger, and account maintenance and data entry.
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required. MS of MBA preferred
CPA/CMA strongly preferred
5+ years of experience in a Controller/Director of Finance role
Accounting and finance experience in a wholesale distribution business a plus
Strong experience in finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal
Strong leadership skills
