Controller role and responsibilities

A controller is responsible for managing the accounting operations of the organization. As a controller, you may also:

  • Direct and plan the preparation of reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings, based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Oversee determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets
  • Establish or recommend major economic objectives and policies for company or subdivision
  • Hire and manage financial staff
  • Report to top financial officer or CEO
