Mortgage Jobs

The mortgage industry works closely with the real estate industry to secure financing for the homes people want to buy. As part of the financial sector, mortgage jobs are important to the success of the industry. Mortgage jobs include positions such as: Loan Officer, Loan Processor or Closer, Underwriter, and Post Closing. Working in the mortgage industry will require a background check and credit check to ensure employees have no defaulted loans and can be trusted with the financial and identifying information they have access to as a result of their position.

Loan Officer

This person is the one who originates the loan. He or she works directly with the borrowers to get the information on the property they want to buy, and all the documentation required to prove income, employment, and credit worthiness. Loan officers may or may not work in the office and generally work for commission based on the loan amount.

Loan Processor/Closer

The loan processor or closer reviews all the documentation to ensure it is correct. He or she will do employment verifications, and perform any other necessary tasks to make sure the loan is ready to close. Any errors must be corrected at this stage before the loan can close.

Underwriter

Underwriters review the loan information, the property information, and the credit information to ensure the loan will go through. If borrowers have credit issues but are close to qualifying, the underwriter is able to take a closer look and determine whether or not to make an exception and approve the loan. Underwriters have guidelines to follow for the loan requirements and those guidelines must be followed closely when approving loans.

Post Closing

The post closing staff works to send the loan documentation to the lender’s corporate office so it can be kept on file. This occurs after the borrowers have moved into the home and the funds have been dispersed.
